Personality and Past Overview
Born in Kusa, Tatsuya and his older brother were each raised mostly by their grandfather Arata, whom was a loving individual though also was not around much due to his traveling job as a courier ninja, thus his elder brother Katsuo was left to watch him often times. At the age of 2, and his brother 6, their parents were eliminated by a few vengeful shinobi from Iwa and the brothers remember little of them. By the time Tatsuya turned 5, he began tagging along with his grandpa in his travels to both Konoha and Suna, watching and then learning about working as a courier ninja.
Soon after entering into the ninja academy, Katsuo began acting strangely, being more cold toward Tatsuya and much more competitive, often calling him weak and being very critical of his actions. By the time Tatsuya was 13, his brother had essentially left home, and soon Tatsuya would find that he'd turned over to Orochimaru as a test subject due to their unique Scald Release abilities and in an attempt to further his strength. Tatsuya, having a generally brash attitude and hard exterior would appear angered by the discovery, though he is in fact hurt by it since his brother is someone he had much higher hopes for. The two begin to loathe one another at this point, as their opposite personalities and clashing beliefs have torn them apart. Tatsuya is one who believes strength is better gained on one's own accord, willpower and protecting others close to them, whereas Katsuo is bent on power and is more willing to hand himself over and be tweaked and twisted around by another to gain power. Soon after the incident with his brother, Arata succumbs to sickness and slowly passes away, leaving Tatsuya to essentially fend for himself.
For the next few years Tatsuya hones his skills tremendously, and also takes his grandfather's place in being a part time courier ninja and often travels between Konoha, Suna and Kusa. Personally, Tatsuya is one who has a pleasant though somewhat mysterious aura, with a notable tinge of loneliness and emptiness. Typically he is seen with a soft smile, and is normally good at concealing his negative emotions and keeping a generally good attitude. He's one who is kind and independent, though tends to have a sharp tongue and a hot head usually in the face of opposition. He is also quite energetic, and is almost always on the go and has a sort of boyish charm about him. Under some circumstances he is also seen as a bit shy and easily flustered.

Relationships
Arata (grandfather,deceased) 
Arata was a reserved man, who worked a lot. Though he was also rather nice and Tatsuya respects him for helping to raise him and his brother, he never quite felt a close bond to him since he was gone most of the time, and left Katsuo to help take care of Tatsuya. He passed away when Tatsuya was 13 when he passed on, due to lung cancer.

Katsuo (older brother, 20) 
During the time Katsuo watched over Tatsuya, the two often bickered though it wasn't something that became too much of a problem until they were in their teens. This was when Katsuo began to be more ruthless and cold about the kinds of fights he would pick. He began chastising anything Tatsuya did, telling him he was weak and that his ways of gaining power wouldn't get him very far. He often calls him stupid instead of addressing him by his name, and eventually Tatsuya has grown apart from him and has lost respect for him after often times simply ignoring Katsuo's behavior. He tends to mock Tatsuya's hobbies, choice of clothing, and also that he doesn't seem to take too much interest in girls. Katsuo can be described as someone who doesn't have any empathy for others, a perfectionist who can never admit when he is wrong and eventually grows a bit cruel.

The two met in the ninja academy in Kusa, and were also assigned the same team as Genin and Chunin. Kayo is spunky, and has been there to push Tatsuya during times he grew upset. Though the two have grown and ventured on their own as Jonin now, Kayo has made it a bit clear she has strong feelings toward Tatsuya and has for a while. Granted, Tatsuya hasn't yet told her he isn't attracted to girls physically, and thinks of her almost like a sister.
Gaara
Ever since Tatsuya's travels with his grandfather through Konoha and Suna, Tatsuya has been familiar with Gaara and his powers, and how shunned the boy was as a child. The two have met each other on a few occasions, usually just passing each other by in shops or in the wilderness. Tatsuya has caught a glimpse of how Gaara has changed over the years. In their preteen years while Gaara was going through his psychotic stage, Tatsuya thought him to be like his brother and decided to stay away. Granted, since Gaara had taken the role of Kazekage and since Tatsuya is a known courier of Suna, the two end up working closely together until Gaara offers him a job as his personal courier and messenger. When Tatsuya learns more about Gaara at this time, he becomes intrigued. Gaara in turn sympathizes with Tatsuya in terms of the two being rather alone in the world, and seeing how Tatsuya's brother has left him with nearly nothing, makes Gaara appreciate that his own siblings are on his side. Temari and Kankuro begin to consider Tatsuya like family as he begins to work more in Suna, and eventually he and Gaara develop a romantic relationship in which they are both very protective and supportive of one another.
